Donner Lohnes, age 80, of Asheville, NC died peacefully on March 30, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael Flynn. She leaves her son Chris Burns of Arlington, MA, and his wife Rachel Ostrow, as well as her grandchildren Desmond and Petra Burns.
Donner was born in Cambridge, MA. Her youth was spent in the Girl Scouts, and she graduated from Cambridge High & Latin. During her time at Boston University she studied in Madrid, Spain, where she developed her lifelong passion for the Spanish language and culture and made many dear friends. Donner’s love of languages extended to her interest in Esperanto, as an active member of the American Esperanto Society. In 1996, Donner and Michael moved to Ceiba, Puerto Rico. Donner enjoyed being part of the Unitarian Universalist community everywhere she lived, and in Puerto Rico she officiated several weddings. In 2006 Michael and Donner settled in Asheville, NC where Donner worked as a tax preparer at H&R Block and enjoyed the UU community, Spanish conversation group, and the friendship of many in her community.
Donner loved to travel throughout her life. Memorable trips include her South American travels with son Chris in 1986 to view Halley’s comet. From China to Egypt, she visited Canada by rail and her list of places she wanted to visit was endless.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Donner’s memory can be made to Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc.
