Donald A. Mills

Donald A. Mills, 74, of Weaverville, NC, passed away on November 24, 2025, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
Born on March 12, 1951, in Portsmouth, VA, Don arrived just moments after his identical twin brother, Ronald. He was the son of William Mills and Marion Hendrick Mills. From an early age, Don displayed curiosity, determination, and a remarkable work ethic—qualities that shaped his life and career.
Don enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a Manufacturing Management Executive, where he was known for his precision, commitment, and calm problem-solving spirit. Outside of work, he embraced every opportunity to explore the world around him. He loved hiking, scuba diving, and downhill skiing; he shared many special moments lifting weights with his sons. A lifelong tinkerer, Don took great joy in building and flying RC planes, and he was rarely without an audiobook playing nearby.
Above all, Don was a devoted husband and father whose greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sharon Mills, and their children: Michelle Mills Strout, Matthew Mills, Catherine Olschanowsky, Kimberly Glesser, Adam Mills, Dwight Mills, Donald Mills, and Michael Mills. He also leaves behind 19 cherished grandchildren, his twin brother Ronald Mills, his sister Sandra Buchholz, and his mother Marion Mills.
Don’s legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Services will be held at Haiku on Dec 1st, at 11:30am, 26 Sweeten Creek Rd, Asheville, NC 28803. We will be live streaming services.
