Dennis James Thomas, loving husband, father, and grandfather left this earth on August 7, 2024.
Born September 18th,1954 to Albert and Myrtle Thomas, he was the youngest of four children.
He met the love of his life early in grade school, becoming best friends, and eventually marrying Janet. They spent 47 wonderful years together.
They have an amazing son, Brett of whom he was so proud. This led to him to becoming father-in-law to Brett’s wife, Melissa. He was grandfather to Brett and Melissa’s children, Henry and Isobel, his “Booger” and “Princess”, respectively.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he served his country with honor during the Vietnam era. He also served as a guard at Craggy Prison. He was an excellent front-end alignment mechanic and learned the trade in his fathers garage.
For several years, he was the voice of West Asheville Little League Baseball, bringing his considerable radio voice and DJ talents to the announcer’s booth on Saturday mornings. He also volunteered with West Asheville Little League football, acting as a field medic, assistant coach, and Dad to many.
Den had a love of music and was a drummer for several bands when he was younger. His former bandmates, Bruce and Steve, are great friends.
He was a loving husband, a great Dad and Grandfather, a good man, and most of all, a dear friend to many.
He is survived by his wife Janet, his son, Brett, grandchildren Henry and Isobel, his eldest brother, Albert “Jr” and sister Betty Curtis and his mother-in-law, Vivian Martin. He was met, in death, by his sister Mary Lee Stamey and his parents.
A very special thank you to the staff of VA Valor Hospice.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23,
