Deborah Jean Van Sciver Allen, 72, of Swannanoa, NC, passed away June 14, 2022 at Pelican Health in Swannanoa, NC.
Deborah was born in Charlotte, NC to the late Richard Van Sciver and Margaret Van Sciver Bolen. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Kenneth Van Sciver and Peter Van Sciver, and sisters, Susan Weigel and Judith Calvin.
Deborah was a former long-time resident of Charlotte, NC. She graduated from Myers Park High School and Brevard College, and earned a double Masters Degree in Music and Education from Winthrop University. Though an Episcopalian by birth, Deborah spent many years as a member of Dilworth Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC. She loved beautiful music and shared her talent generously as an oboist, a pianist, and as a member of her church’s choir and handbell choir until mental illness took over her life.
Surviving Deborah are her sons John Christopher Allen of Charlotte, NC and James Anthony Allen of Charlotte, NC; stepdaughters, Marguerite Bowen, and Jacqueline Allen; sisters, Margaret “Gretchen” Tracy (Donald) of Salisbury, NC, Katharine Carter (Harry “Chip”) of Salisbury, NC; and brother, Michael Van Sciver (Ruth) of Myrtle Beach, SC;
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on July 2, 2022 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Salisbury, NC. The Rev. Dr. Robert Black and the Rev. Mr. Thomas Carter will be officiating. Memorials can be made to Metropolitan Music Ministries, P.O. Box 12736, Charlotte, NC 28220-2736.
