David "Fuzzy Dave" Ferguson, 68, took his final flight west, surrounded by his family, on Monday, November 11, in Asheville, NC. Dave was born in Atlanta, GA, on March 25, 1956. He is survived by his bride of 48 years, Cheryl; his five children: David Jr., Ashley, Austin, Jordan, and Mallory; and his six grandchildren: Lily, Colten, Ivy, Landon, Weston, and Aiden. He also leaves behind his beloved redbone hound, Jake.
Dave earned his civil engineering degree in 1976 before beginning a career in real estate and later transitioning to the insurance industry. From an early age, Fuzzy Dave was an avid pilot, boater and motorcyclist. In his later years he spent countless hours at the Hendersonville Airport and Johnson Field. These places were more than just runways—they were where Dave worked on planes, took to the skies, swapped stories with old friends, and occasionally caught a nap. The airport also became a cherished setting for family gatherings, birthday celebrations, and the legendary Easter egg hunts. Dave was a jack of all trades and a master of fun, known for his vast knowledge and enthusiasm for life. Whether flying, tinkering, or riding, he always brought passion, joy, and had a knack for making every moment unforgettable.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to send a card with your memories to Cheryl Ferguson at 102 C North Ridge Drive, Asheville, NC 28804. Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
