David (Dave) George Kintzle, 72, left his earthly life from Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, on Saturday, July 20, 2024. David was born in Davenport, Iowa, on December 1, 1951, and was the second of seven children born to George and Maria Kintzle.
David graduated from Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, Colorado. For the last several years, Cullowhee, NC, was his home. He had also lived in Pelzer and Greenville, SC and previously in the Atlanta, GA, area after leaving Colorado and heading east as a young adult.
David was predeceased by wife--Kathleen Reinhard McCracken Kintzle, his parents and two brothers--Mark and Robin Kintzle. He is survived by sisters—Susan Kintzle, Joy Beldt and Rebecca Hoffarth, a brother--Rick Kintzle, all of Colorado, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
David appreciated–-and could repair—all things of wood . . . a skill he surely inherited from his father and paternal grandfather. He was a talented self-taught cabinet maker who was meticulous about his tools. He established Hidden Falls Enterprises while building a cabin on their SC rural farm and he restored and operated a bed and breakfast—Somewhere In Time—in Due West, SC, with former wife, Nancy Kintzle.
He could learn anything he set his mind to, was very detailed oriented and even built his own computer. Using computer program flight simulators, he learned to fly airplanes and earned his pilots’ license. Dave enjoyed dogs and was proud of being able to train his deaf Dalmatian. He could prepare a mean Thanksgiving turkey and was a proficient baker. In his 40’s, he trained on his bicycle with hopes of being in the Olympics. David had always been a health/nutrition enthusiast until an illness a couple of years ago resulted in his steady decline.
The family is being served by Asheville Area Alternative Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC. A private service will be held at a later date.
