Chris Ownbey was a fun loving man who derived the most pleasure in life from helping others. Chris worked for the United States Postal Service for 23 years, achieving promotion to supervisory roles. Never caring for hording money he poured every cent and hour of his life into his children, whom he is survived by, Jordan Ownbey and Annalisa Wayman. Not stopping his generosity at the doors of his home Chris was always the first to coach the kid who didn't get much attention or make sure that everyone got home safely each evening. Winning was never far away from Chris in any of his postings, he was in the corner of professional mixed martial artists as well as coaching staffs that won championships in basketball, football, soccer, and wrestling. His coaching services graced such institutions as Christ School, Enka Middle and High School, Erwin Middle, Reynolds High, Hominy Valley Youth Sports, Strong and Courageous Wrestling Club, Triple G MMA, American Top team Asheville, and his final season was spent coaching wrestling at North Buncombe Middle School. Chris also loved the quiet and simple things in life. Many a happy evening he spent in the kitchen with his son and his girlfriend Kindra Rajaniemi both making dinner and making merry. Adopting the neighborhood cats that appeared by the house 6 years ago provided him with constant companionship and affection. Visitors to the neighborhood were often taken aback to see him taking walks with multiple cats following him, only bound by trust. Chris also loved the city of Asheville, whether it be a restaurant or a watering hole or a concert venue, and had such a vast array of friends that no one person could hope to make a full list of them. Christopher Alan Ownbey is survived by his children Jordan Taylor Ownbey and Annalisa Christina Wayman and his grandson Grant Bradley Wayman. He is also survived by his mother Sally Ownbey and sister Cheryl Rector, Kyndall Rector as well as her children Wayne Rector and Megan Rector. Todd Reed, Charles Reed, Nancy Reed, Meliea Valle, Braedon Hicks, and Parker Hicks are also surviving kin. A date to celebrate his monumental life will be announced in the near future.
