Charles Speights Reichard Jr. February 2, 1946 – May 20, 2026
Charles Speights Reichard Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully in his home in Asheville, NC. Born on February 2, 1946, in Salisbury, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles Speights Reichard Sr. and Juanita Shockley Reichard. Charles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and master machinist, known for his steady presence, quick humor, and quiet strength.
He grew up on the family farm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where he enjoyed horseback riding and developed an enduring work ethic alongside a lifelong love for reading.
Charles shared a lifetime of love and companionship, 56 years, with his doting wife, Harriett Manning Reichard, formally of Atlanta, GA. Together, they built a life centered around family, service, and steadfast devotion.
An entrepreneur and master of his craft, Charles spent over 50 years in the automotive and racing industries. He founded Camcraft, in Easton, MD engineering performance camshafts for championship race car drivers. He had a passion for tinkering with antique automobiles, capturing moments through photography, and enjoying time by the water. Above all he cherished breaking bread and telling stories with family and friends, while taking in the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Stephen Brantley Reichard; and his son-in-law, Stanley Brian Baker.
He is survived by his loving wife, Harriett and her brother Robert Manning; his cherished daughters, Betty Jean Reichard Baker and Victoria Elizabeth Reichard (Brian Heltz); his adored grandson, Graydon Charles Baker; and a close circle of extended family, friends, and neighbors who will deeply miss his ready smile.
A service honoring Charles’s life will be held at New Life Apostolic Church located at 110 Johnston Blvd. Asheville, NC 28806 on May 30th, 2026, at 3:00pm. The church holds deep personal significance for Charles and Harriett, as it is where Charles was baptized and received the Holy Ghost.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to a local charity or adult day center of your choice.
