Charles (Chuck) Briedis Born Karlis Briedis on July 30,1939, in Riga, Latvia, Chuck passed away on January 13, 2023 at the Care Partners Solace Center. During World War II, his family was forced to leave Latvia, becoming displaced persons. After spending several years in a camp on Munich, Germany, the family immigrated to the US. After living first in Brooklyn, then Newark, they eventually settled in Cleveland. There he completed high school and attended Fenn College (now a part of Cleveland State). Later, he received his Masters Degree in history from the University of Michigan. After moving to Long Island, he taught at Lawrence High School for over twenty years. After retiring, he and Beverly moved to Asheville. There he was active in tennis, Kiwanis, the Chamber Music Society (past president), and teaching at the College for Seniors. He was known for his love and extensive knowledge of classical music. He was predeceased by his parents Karlis and Velta (Rusis) Briedis and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly (Reeves), daughter Elizabeth Allen (Ray), brother Peter (Biruta), niece Velta Winkler (Stephen), grand-niece Mara and grand-Nephew Peter. In lieu of flowers, he requested that any memorial donation be made either to the Asheville Humane Society,14 Forever Friend Lane, Asheville NC 28806 or to the Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO), 27 College Place, Suite 100, Asheville NC 28801. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at 4:00PM at the UU Congregation of Asheville, 1 Edwin Place, Asheville, NC 28803.
