Catherine Marie Trebes

Cathie was born to John and Beverly Trebes in Hawthorne, California, May 19, 1959. She had an older brother, Charles Trebes. Cathie was a quiet and sweet child she grew up to be a very bright young woman. Upon graduating college in Alpine, Texas, she chose to join Peace Corp where she spent most of her adult life overseas helping others in places like Japan, China, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Burma, Germany and many  more countries. She lived in South Africa for five years before returning to the United States. 

Shortly after coming to NC, Cathie’s brother died and Mom was not doing well. Cathie chose to happily settle down in Weaverville, NC. Cathie fit right in there, she and her cat, Willow. Cathie loved jogging, hiking and anything outdoors. 

 Suddenly Cathie was diagnosed with a terminal disease in 2023 and given not a long time to live. 

Her only family left to assist her with this transition brought her to Rutherfordton, NC.  She continued to walk whenever she could. We made sure to take Cathie every week to get her hair done, she loved that. Take her to church with us. We took her to all doctor’s appointments in Asheville, and then we would stop to eat. Anything to make her SMILE, we would do. 

The time came we had to make our visits to see her at Brookdale, God bless them. We still seen her as much as every other day. Hospice came in the last two months to make things easier. They were great. Catherine Marie Trebes met her Lord and Savior May 7, 2025.

Alive to cherish Cathie’s memory are her mother (nursing home); nephew, Chris Winter and his family of Nevada; her cousins, Bobbie McCallum, Teddy Davis and Dale Ann Edmonds, all of NC, Dawn Oyarazabal of California, and a lot more cousins; friend, Lottie Erikson of NC, co-worker, Karen Nelson of Kansas, and more friends and co-workers, including Barbara Hales of NC and Kathryn Stratos of Virginia.

Catherine's wish was for no funeral. Hopefully we will have a memorial service at a later date.
