His hobbies included woodworking, hunting ginseng, and cheering for Duke’s Basketball team. He also loved riding his 4-wheeler and, above all, spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley Jean Shelton English. His legacy lives on through his children, Donna Woody (Tim) of Mars Hill and Alan English (Bette) of Spruce Pine. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Tracey Kanarr (Isaac), Robert Zink, Zack English (Nell), Alex English (Kathleen), Emily Butler (Zack), Macci English, and Shauna English; as well as seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
