Carolyn Sue Sims Stein, of Brevard, North Carolina, passed away on April 15, 2026.
She was born on January 26, 1938, in Dover Hill, Indiana, to William Curtis Sims and Ella Grace (Richey) Sims, the seventh of nine children. Carolyn graduated from Shoals High School and went on to a career in office management, working for more than 30 years with Smock Construction in Indianapolis.
On September 2, 1988, she married Solomon “Sol” Stein. Together, they shared many happy years between their homes in Carmel, Indiana, and Bonita Springs, Florida. Carolyn took great joy in hosting large family gatherings, where her generosity, and hospitality brought people together. Family stories are still shared about the many dishes and dozens of pies for her pre-Thanksgiving celebration. She was a devoted and adored aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Her generosity extended to her many long-term friends and their children who she embraced as one of her own.
Carolyn is survived by her brother, Jerry (Suzanne) Sims of Brevard, North Carolina; her sixteen nieces and nephews—Jennifer, Jayne, Stephanie, Randy, Scott, John, Jeff, Joe, LuAnn, Beth, Donna, Marsha, Juli, Lora, Brian, and Brad; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sol, and her siblings Walter “Keith” Sims, Roma Sims, William Sims, Norma "Joanne" Walter, Hiram Sims, James Sims, and Wanda Fischer.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at Goodwill Cemetery in Loogootee, Indiana.
