Caroline Holbrook Green

Caroline Holbrook Green of Chattanooga, Tennessee died May 30, 2020.  She was born in Baltimore County, Maryland to Robert and Carolyn Hill on November 3, 1926.  Carol was the youngest of three daughters.  As her father was a teacher, Carol and her sisters grew up in boys’ boarding schools.  Carol spoke fondly of her childhood and enjoyed sharing stories of the many places she lived and the adventures she had.  Some of her happiest memories were times spent at the family vacation home on Long Island Sound in Grove Beach, Connecticut.

Following in the footsteps of many family members, Carol was an educator.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Towson College and became an elementary school teacher.  She married Harry J. Green on June 5, 1953, the day he graduated United States Naval Academy.  Carol, Jim, and their four children moved frequently as a result of Jim’s time in the Navy, as well as his career with TVA.  She was an active community member and very involved at each new location.  With every move, she made friendships that lasted a lifetime.  Carol loved to entertain, took pride in a well-set table and a colorful garden, but was most of all a loving and attentive mother and grandmother.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her son Robert, and her sister Mary.  She is survived by her children Jim Green (Dawn), Jane Green (Cathy) and Linda Crane; a daughter in law Susie Ogletree; and grandchildren Jennifer Green Miller (Kevin), Jessica Green, John Green and Paul Green.  She also leaves behind Brayden James Miller, her great-grandson whom she adored, her sister Anne (Joe), and four beloved nieces.  Graveside services with immediate family will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.  Carol was a kind and generous woman who donated regularly to charities and causes important to her.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity whose work you find valuable.
