Basil McDonald Hart III, age 72, of Asheville, NC passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at Care Partners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Born March 03, 1950 in Bronx, NY, he was a son of the late Basil McDonna Hart Jr., and Virginia Eva Crump. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandmother, Eva Crump; aunt, Rosalie DeLeon; sister, Charlotte Hart; and great grandson, Israel Williams. He attended Hempstead High School in Hempstead, NY and graduate of St. Thomas Episcopalian High School in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and attended the University of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. He was very dedicated to his community as he served as a youth counselor, mentor, Community Advocate, and long-term employment with the North Carolina judicial system. He leaves to mourn his wife of 29 years, Laverne Holloway Hart; children: Eric Justice of Asheville, NC, Tamela Eaton of Cleveland, OH, Basil M. Hart IV of Mt. Pocono, PA, and Julia Foster and her spouse, Philip, of Charlotte, NC; siblings: Susan Ellis and her spouse, Dale, of Monte Claire, NJ, Marvin Hart of Flint, MI, and step-sister; Linda Zuhri of Virginia Beach, VA; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; Stepmother, Maggie Hart, of Flint, MI; sister-in-law, LyNette Lyles of Asheville, NC; as well a host of family members and loved ones. Of his many enjoyments in life, jazz music, Caribbean music, dancing, singing, solving puzzles, playing the Conga drums, and advocating for members of the community were among his favorites. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 16, 2022 in the chapel of Asheville Area Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services in Asheville, NC.
