Barbara Elizabeth Campbell, age 95, of Asheville, NC passed away on January 5, 2026 at the Givens Estates (Wood Assisted Living). Barbara was born in Amherst County, VA on February 21, 1930 to the late James Bernard Campbell and Martha Carnegie “Connie” Cash Campbell.
Barbara received her Bachelors’ of Education in 1953 from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia. She then went on to receive her Masters’ of Education in 1967 from the University of Virginia. She was part of Delta Kappa Gamma Education Sorority. She was a sixth-grade schoolteacher for 40 years.
Upon moving to Asheville, Givens Estates, from Amherst Virginia, she soon became a very active member of First Baptist Church of Asheville. She believed in the power of faith and education to change society for the better. She enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling, and hiking and of course, her family and friends.
Barbara is preceded in death by her brother, James B. Campbell Jr. and her sister, Betty C. Mantiply. She is survived by her sister, Jane Campbell Boaz (Dick), of Henrico, VA; her nieces, Dianne C. Beauchamp, Lynn C. Thesing, and Sharon Kay Mantiply Clark; her nephew, M. Mallory Mantiply; her double first cousin, Jean Campbell Thomas and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews.
A memorial service will be held in spring 2026 in Amherst, VA. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Asheville (5 Oak St, Asheville, NC 28801) or a charity of choice. A special thanks to the staff of Givens Estates, First Baptist Church of Asheville and Four Seasons Hospice.
