Julia Ann Hawkins, 89, passed away on January 26, 2024. She was born on December 22, 1934. Ann went to school and lived her entire life in the Emma community of Buncombe County.
She was preceded in death by a twin brother, Richard Joseph Hensley who passed not many months after her birth; parents, Telitha Octavia Morris Hensley and Robert Luther Hensley Sr.; brothers, Lloyd Goehring Hensley and Robert Luther Hensley Jr.; favorite sister, Nita H. Varner.
Ann’s working career included Asheville Hosiery, Belk, and concluded as a retiree from JC Penny catalog department.
Surviving are her son, David Hawkins and his wife Mary; grandsons, Drew Hawkins and his wife Jennifer, Brandon Hawkins and his wife Amanda; great-grandchildren, Maleah, Jaxon, Lucas, Emmie, Lauryn, and Aiven. Ann had many nieces/great nieces and great nephews.
A special thanks to all the staff working the floor at Mission Hospital K 9th floor, Meal on Wheels folks that brightened her every week day, Cheryl and kids for all their compassionate care, cousin Jurann for all her priceless help over the years, and for daughter in law Mary’s care and understanding when life’s unconscionable challenges presented themselves. Miss you Mom.
