Andriette Kinsella 1936-2023
Andriette passed peacefully July 19, 2023; a week shy of her 87th birthday. She was an avid gardener and nature lover who spent her last 17 months at the Marjorie McCune Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Andriette lived in Queens, NY; Detroit, MI; and Weston, CT; to name a few, following her husband Frank in his career while raising four children: Karen, Maureen, Dave, and Tom.
After being widowed, with her children grown, Andriette pursued certification as a licensed Massage Therapist. She practiced in NYC and Alexandria, VA before moving to Asheville 25 years ago. When the Grove Park Inn opened the spa, Andriette was among the first to apply, practicing massage and other healing modalities for eight years until retirement in 2009.
Andriette was a beloved member of her communities, especially Jubilee! Community in Asheville, and community theatre wherever she lived, starting with costumes and sets back in Weston, followed by many production and performance roles.
Andriette is predeceased by her parents, and a brother, Fred Spinelli. Survivors include her four children and a brother, Robert, with wife, Celina, as well as six nieces and nephews, and six grandchildren: Katie W, Sarah, Christina, Riley, Katie K, and Megan.
Her family is forever grateful to the Marjorie McCune Center for their wonderful care in a beautiful setting, where Mom could view the splendor of nature from the atrium. We are thankful she was able to enjoy one last Asheville spring. Special gratitude for her friend, Nancy, from the Jubilee! Community, for her unwavering support in Mom’s final years.
Following her love of the natural world, Andriette chose a natural burial at the Carolina Memorial Sanctuary, Mills River, southwest of Asheville. The burial procession begins at 1:00, July 25th, in the Sanctuary parking lot. Attendees should dress for a nature walk: casual with closed, comfortable footwear. Asheville Area Alternative is preparing her for burial. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Marjorie McCune Center (run by the Lions Club of Western NC), or the Carolina Memorial Sanctuary, for conservation of the land.
