Raymond Carroll Russell Jr., 76, of Black Mountain passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 3, 2019. Born July 27, 1942 in Asheville, he was a son of the late Raymond Carroll Russell and Mildred Brookshire Russell. He was an alumnus of Owen H.S. and A-B Technical College. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and retired from Wrights Machine Shop after 30 years of service. Surviving are his children, Raymond Carroll Russell III of Greenville, SC, Robert Kevin Russell of Black Mountain, David Brandon Raines of Washington, D.C., and Daniel Ray Raines of Black Mountain; brother, Kermit Patrick Russell of Black Mountain; sister, Elaine Russell Wright of Old Fort; grandchildren, Raymond Blake Russell of Sumter, SC, David Kevin Russell of Swannanoa, Brooke Lora Russell of Greenville, SC, Brandy Crossman of Black Mountain, and Justin Fowler of Asheville; nephews, Kermit Patrick Russell Jr of Marion, and Charlie Russell of Black Mountain; and nieces, Fran Gregg of Black Mountain and Victoria Gardner of Marion. A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, January 11, 2018 in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain.
