Mark Nicholas Hughes

August 4, 2017

Mark Nicholas Hughes, 57, of the Buladean Community, passed away 08/04/17 following a most courageous battle with lung cancer. He was the son of the late Blaine and Margaret Dupkoski Hughes.

Surviving are a daughter, Amanda Hughes Johnson (Hunter), and granddaughter Brooklyn of Owen Cross Roads, Alabama. Also surviving are sisters Kelly Hughes, Melody Hughes, Robyn Hughes, Rebecca Hughes, Julie Young, and a brother, Timothy Hughes, nephews Asa Johnson, Lincoln and Eli Young, a niece, Whitney Hall and two great nieces.

Mark was a hard worker, formerly employed by OMC and Wal-Mart, an honest man, and a loyal friend who loved his family. When able, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors.

The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation for all of the prayers and help given to them during this difficult time. Thank you to South Estatoe Baptist Church for their quick response in building the wheelchair ramp and to Keith Chrisawn and Chuck Randolph for their unselfish acts of kindness and to Celo Volunteer Fire Department for their quick and caring response.  A very special thank you to Yancey County Hospice and Palliative Care. You are truly a gift from God.

Anyone wishing to express condolences may go to Asheville Alternative's website.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
