Marjolyn Desiree Nordhorn

July 23, 1947 ~ September 9, 2017 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Marjolyn Desiree “Marjo” Nordhorn, 70, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the John F. Keever Jr., Solace Center in Asheville. Born on July 23, 1947 in Batavia (Jakarta), Indonesia, she was a daughter of the late Cornelius Henri Noordhoorn and Louise Thelma Laargewaard. She was an alumnus of Eastern Michigan University at Ypsilanti, MI (BA), Bank Street at New York, NY (MS), and the University of Tennessee at Nashville (MSLV). She has called many places home through her life as she had resided in New York, NY, Nashville, TN, Ypsilanti, MI, New Orleans, LA, Asheville, NC, and Madrid, Spain. Enjoying the task of shaping young minds, she had found employment with several schools through the years such as: Rainbow Mountain School of Asheville, NC, American School of Madrid, Spain, Shalom Children’s Center in Asheville, and the LSU Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. Ms. Nordhorn was a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She was an avid reader of literature, and a fine gardener and a creative cook. She brought an unmatched quality of wisdom, understanding, and compassion to her very young children and their families. She described herself as a "mean Mary Poppins", but she was very kind but firm, and assumed the role of leadership. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and clients, and their children, many now adults. She was the best there was. Surviving are her life partner of 14 years, Philip Bowditch; siblings: Jack Noordhoorn of New York, NY, Max Noordhoorn of Ann Arbor, MI, Chris Noordhoorn of Highland, MI, and Lennie Gee of Encinitas, CA, and niece, Maura Noordhoorn of Garden City, NY.
