Mackie Randolph Ivey

September 12, 1940 ~ December 5, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old


Mackie Randolph Ivey passed away December 5, 2017 peacefully at home in Swannanoa with his family.  He was 77.

He was born September 12, 1940 in Harnett County, North Carolina to the late Fred Guthrie Ivey Sr. and Ina Frances Miller Ivey.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dorothy Redmon Ivey, and sisters Patricia Ivey Prindle and Joyce Ivey Rawls.

He is survived by his children Kevin Ivey (Tamara) of Columbia SC and Jennifer Ivey-Crews (Michael) of Creedmoor NC.  He is also survived by grandchildren Cherish Ivey and Caman Ivey-Bridgman(Donnie) of Clyde NC, Seth Crews of Creedmoor NC and Joshua Leake of Asheville. Two great grand-children, Neveah Barrios and Rayleigh Bridgman also blessed his life. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Laura Ivey Valentine of Tallahassee FL and Fred Guthrie Ivey Jr. (Joanne) of Candler NC.  Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-great niece also survive him with cherished memories.

He died a faithful man of God and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and was a member at Trinity Baptist Church.  He had also worshiped at Swannanoa FWB Church and Calvary FWB Church during his lifetime.

Orphaned in his youth he eventually made his way to Asheville to start a career and family in the 1950s.  He retired after 30 years from the Department of Corrections in 1991 achieving the rank of Sargent.  After retiring from the state, he traveled the country for over 20 years driving for local tour companies and making many friends along the way.  Towards the end of his career he was the lead driver for the Clemson University football team and became an avid fan of the team.  He also loved NASCAR racing and Eastern North Carolina Bar-b-que.

He never met a stranger and was known for his gregarious nature and generosity.  He will be missed.

He did not want a funeral but the family will be planning a memorial service for early January.  In lieu of flowers please make donations in his name to DABO’S ALL IN TEAM Foundation, PO Box 1585 Clemson SC 29633 Attn: Beth Douglas or Trinity Baptist Church in Asheville.
