Joyce Santy Obituary

Joyce Ann Blair Santy, 80, of Clyde passed away on March 20, 2018 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Born on November 1, 1937 in Vandergrift, PA, she was a daughter of the late William and Ruth Blair. At the age of 27, she moved to Lauderdale Lakes, FL where she resided for 35 years before moving to North Carolina. She worked as a surgical technician until her retirement at 65. Upon moving to North Carolina, she became a member of Longs Chapel United Methodist Church at Lake Junaluska. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved the holidays and any social gatherings. She cared very deeply for her children and would express her love often. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and valued each of their individual personalities and traits, always checking up on them wherever they were. Joyce had a gift of hospitality. She had a way of making everyone who came to visit, feel welcomed and comfortable, like part of the family! She had a profound way of talking and listening to others, and she would always find goodness in everyone she would meet. She was very compassionate and loving and would add humor to any conversation. Joyce was devoted Christian and her love for the Lord shined through her. She had a very generous heart and would help anyone in need. She would always put others’ needs before her own. Joyce shared her Christian faith and wisdom with everybody. Joyce has a passion for music and played the piano. She loved all kinds of music! She especially enjoyed classical piano played by her favorite artist, Lang Lang. She also enjoyed going to concerts and loved singing hymns. In addition to his parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Janet Wiiliams, Francie Freedline, and Judy Blair. Surviving are her children: John R. Santy of Clyde, Melissa A. Byrnes of Leicester, NC, and Renee L. Kirby of Clyde, NC; siblings: Jackie Casagni of Nashville, TN, Joni Blair of Cookeville, TN, and William Blair and his spouse, Toni, of Tamarac, FL; grandchildren: John G. Byrnes II of Asheville, NC, Jeremy R. Byrnes of Asheville, NC, Joseph H. Byrnes of Asheville, NC, Ronald Kirby II of Charlotte, NC, Rhiannon Kirby of Farmingdale, NJ; and two great grandsons: Budrho Byrnes and Kai Byrnes. Joyce will always be loved and will truly be missed by all of her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Longs Chapel United Methodist Church, 175 Old Clyde Road, Waynesville, NC 28785 with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank all those who shared their love and support throughout Joyce’s illness.
