Jonathan Calhoun Davis

Jonathan Calhoun Davis, son of Kim Marie Calhoun, died unexpectedly in his sleep, on Saturday November 11, 2017, from complications due to Type I Diabetes. Jonathan is survived by his beloved daughter Stella Elayne (her mother Desiree VanCuren); his mother Kim Calhoun and her spouse Jacqueline Combs; his brother Joseph (partner Erica and their son Samuel); his sisters Lucinda Chafin and Leslie Black; and an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Jonathan was preceded in death by his father Joseph Samuel Davis, his paternal and maternal grandparents and a paternal cousin.

Jonathan was born on June 19, 1987, was raised in Asheville, NC and had deep and abiding roots in both Asheville and his maternal family’s origins in Mississippi. Jonathan was an old soul, an extrovert and free spirit,  a tender and abiding companion, and was innately intuitive and playful. Jonathan loved his family and friends and enjoyed Mississippi State football, cooking, music, fishing, camping, boating, roller hockey, target shooting, and being outdoors. Jonathan’s love for his daughter was immeasurable and steadfast. Jonathan’s favorite work was landscaping and machine operation and he took pride in making something ordinary look extraordinary. Jonathan valued creation, good dirt, good music, good people, and good laughs. Jonathan has left us with a legacy of family, faith, love…and a passion for enjoying life, being in the moment, and coloring outside the lines.

We will gather to worship together and celebrate Jonathan’s life on Sunday November 19 @ 3pm at the Cathedral of All Souls, 9 Swan Street Biltmore Village, Asheville, NC. Internment of ashes in the garth will take place after the service, followed by  a reception in the parish hall.
