George Donald Snelson

George Donald “Don” Snelson, 83, of Asheville, passed away on September 8th, 2019 with his daughters by his side. Born in Madison County, NC, he was the son of the late Ernest Snelson and Mable Gibbs. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and worked many years at the C&O Railway in Newport News, VA. He returned to his hometown in the early 70’s where he began a new career and retired as the Director of Parks & Recreations of Buncombe County after many years. George “Don” enjoyed spending time with family and loved his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He spent many years raising cattle at their farm and loved them like they were his children. Don enjoyed doing everything from gardening, feeding the birds, feeding the bears, as long as he was outside, he was truly happy. He is survived by his loving family; daughters, Donna, son in law, Mack, Debbie, son in law, Randy; grandchildren, Burt, Lindsay, Lindsey; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kaylee, Grayson The family would like to thank the wonderful staff who lovingly cared for Don at the Charles George Valor Hospice Center and treated him with kindness. Memorial Service will be private with his family.
