Clarence Frye Ikerd, 76, of Asheville passed away February 18, 2018 at the John F Keever Solace Center in Asheville.
Clarence was born in Newton, NC to the late Emmett Augustus Ikerd and Cleo Frye Ikerd.
Throughout his life he lived in Silver Spring, MD, Los Angeles, CA, Spartanburg, SC, Scranton, PA, Evanston, IL, Clarksville, TN, and Pineville, KY. Clarence was a retired college professor and accountant. He received his BA in English from Wake Forest College, MA in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, PHD in English from UNC Chapel Hill and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1984. Clarence loved to travel and explore the world, particularly the south western United States. He also enjoyed antique collecting and reading everything he could get his hands on.
Surviving Clarence is his loving wife Susan Grogan Ikerd; sister, Martha Loftin and husband Alfred of Wake Forest, NC; nieces Kara Loftin-Shultz and husband Karl, Heather Loftin Holding; stepson, William Barnette and wife Anne of Atlanta, GA; step-grandsons: Mac, Sawyer, and Preston Barnette of Atlanta, GA.
Clarence will be buried at Green Hills Cemetery with a private family service. Memorials can be made to America Civil Liberties Union (aclu.org), Southern Poverty Law Center (splcenter.org), or Guiding Eyes for the Blind (guidingeyes.org).
