Carolyn vonGruenigen Walker, 73, of Asheville passed away suddenly on Friday, February 23, 2018 at her home. Born on January 3, 1945 in Corbin, KY, she was a daughter of the late Karl and Ada vonGruenigen. In 1967, she received a B.A. in French from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. She was a member of the Christian Church in Corbin, KY. Of her many passions helping others were among the most important to her. It showed as she worked as a volunteer at the Reynolda House in Winston-Salem and collected an extensive array of seashells to use as decoration and for educational programs for the public-school system. She also enjoyed gardening and nature in general. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Fred and Rodney vonGruenigen, and Marian and Janet Johnson. Surviving are her spouse of 50 years, James Marion Walker; sons, Vincent Walker of Asheville, NC, and Victor Walker of Charlotte, NC; and a brother, Eldred vonGruenigen and his spouse, Maxine, of Corbin, KY. A private service will be held at a later date.
