Braskey Glen Ray, 73, of Weaverville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. Born on March 4, 1945 in Mars Hill, he was a son of the late Claude and Lena Ray. He was a graduate of Mars Hill H.S. class of 1963, and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Asheville City’s Lawn Care Department after several years of service. Hunting was his passion especially coon and rabbit hunting. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Roger Ray, Ruth Courtney, and Hazel Bailey, and step-daughter, Donna Penland. Surviving is his spouse of 45 years, Marie H. Ray; step-children, Doug Barnes and his spouse, Pat, of Saluda, and Toby Hensley of Weaverville; sister, Myrtle Riddle of Arden, four grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Asheville Area Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services with burial to follow at Green Hills Cemetery in Asheville. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 5 to 7 PM in the chapel of Asheville Area Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services.
