Beverly Joan Gaines

Beverly Joan Gaines 84, was born in Denver, Colorado on February 15, 1932 as the daughter of Estelle S. and William Cody Gaines. Beverly received a Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois and a Masters Degree in Growth and Development from Purdue University. She was instrumental in developing and implementing occupational therapy treatment programs in Newport News, Va., Thoms Rehabilitation Center, Asheville NC, J. Imerson Riddle Rehabilitation Center, Morganton, NC; and Black Mountain, NC. She was also a member of the initial faculty of the occupational therapy program at UNC Chapel Hill. Additionally, she provided treatment to children enrolled in school in several Western North Carolina counties. She was also an active participant in church activities serving on the vestry and teaching a course in Education For Ministry conducted by the University of the South. She enjoyed engaging in calligraphy, providing inscriptions for church members at significant events. Her Welsh heritage was verified and she was able to visit ancestral sites during several trips to Wales. She is survived by a sister, Kathlyn Anne Gaines. A memorial service will be held at All Souls Cathedral in Biltmore, NC at 3:00PM on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Her burial will be at St. Issui's Church at Partrishow in Wales in the fall.
