Beverley Loseke Obituary

Beverley Jeane Thomas Loseke Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother was born January 26, 1931 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to the late Otis and Marion Thomas. She passed over to be with our Lord on November 23, 2018 in Candler, NC. Beverley earned a B.A. in Chemistry from Simpson College in Indianola, IA in 1953 and began her career at Quaker Oats in Omaha where she met her future husband, Warren A Loseke. They relocated to the Chicago area, where she worked for the Toni Company, using her acute sense of smell to test perfumes. Once they had children, she became a homemaker. As their four sons reached school age, she began driving a school bus, which she enjoyed immensely. She continued this after the family’s move to Raleigh, NC in 1972, where she drove for special needs children. This sparked an interest in education culminating in her receiving a master’s degree in education from NC State University in 1979. She joined the staff of D.H. Hill Library at NC State and worked in Periodicals, Reference and eventually Acquisitions, where she continued working until her retirement in the mid 90’s. Beverley had many hobbies. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching and sewing. She was a plant enthusiast and could identify every tree by genus and species, based on the leaf and branch pattern, which she learned while volunteering at the Morton Arboretum in Chicago. She kept an abundance of plants in and around her home, much to the chagrin of her sons as they would always find a way to knock over her favorite one during horseplay! After the death of her husband in 1997, Beverley began travelling and made many new friends through her touring adventures. Her most memorable trip was an Alaskan cruise in 2003. In 2013, Beverley moved to Asheville, NC to the home of her youngest son and his family. She attended North Asheville Baptist Church (now Brookstone Church) and enjoyed sharing in the lives of her sons and grandchildren. In 2016, she moved to Pisgah Manor in Candler, NC where she was lovingly cared for until her death. Beverley is preceded in death by her husband, Warren, parents, Otis & Marion Thomas, and sisters, Shirley Reelfs and Sharon Hastie. She is survived by sisters, Sally Kloostra (Harlan) and Barbara Winters (Jack), her 4 sons: Philip (Amy), Russell (Beth), Brian (Lisa), and Kyle (Lisa), 9 grandchildren – Joshua (Cori), Isaac, Jordan, Garrett, Brianne, Cameron, Kate, Alyssa, Ryan, and 1 great-grandchild, Harker. She will be greatly missed. A celebration of her life will take place on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10AM at the Merrimon Campus of Brookstone Church, 283 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801. Pastor Jim Dykes will officiate. Beverley had compassion for many charitable causes. Donations may be made in her memory to either of her favorites, Help Heal Veterans (www.healvets.org) or the Brookstone Church Building Fund (www.brookstonechurch.org).
