Dr. Benjamin T.
Gravatt of Leicester, N.C.
passed away at his home
on April 28, 2018. He was
66.
Born and raised in
Wrightstown, N.J., Ben
graduated from Bordentown
Regional High
School in 1970 and received
his Bachelor of
Science from the University
of Delaware in 1975.
He earned his MD from
the University of Pittsburgh
School of Medicine
in 1979 and completed
his residency at UNCChapel
Hill in 1982.
After settling in Asheville,
N.C., Ben practiced
anesthesiology for over
30 years, providing services
at Mission Hospital,
St. Joseph’s Hospital, and
the VA Medical Center.
Well-liked and respected
by patients, colleagues,
and friends, Ben was
known for his sense of
humor and down-to-earth
personality.
He enjoyed biking,
reading, cooking and
grilling, and was an avid
wine enthusiast. He
loved the outdoors and
tending his small farm.
Ben greatly enjoyed his
annual summer trips to
Maine and motorcycle
rides with friends.
Ben is survived by
his daughter, Kathryn
Gravatt of Asheville; son,
Matthew Gravatt of
Washington, D.C.; sister,
Pamela Gravatt (Guy
Demange) of Paris,
France; and sister, Faye
Gravatt (Steven Flynn) of
Medford Lakes, N.J. He
also leaves behind nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles,
cousins, and many beloved
friends, including Andrea
R. Gravatt, Deborah O.
Gravatt, and Julia Moore.
His life celebration
will be held privately.
