Alexander Berkow

Alexander Berkow, 33, of Leicester, died Friday, July 21, 2017. A native of San Francisco, CA., he was the son of Paul and Barbara Berkow. He is also survived by his loving; aunts, JoAnne Berkow (Steve Tendrich), Lee Makarov, and Marilyn Williams (Gordon); cousins, Bryan Ellison, Michael Makarov, Earl Williams, Beth Robbins, Naomi Danielle, and Sophie Williams; nephew, Jacob; and nieces, Rachel and Juliana. He moved to Leicester at the age of seven to be raised in sight of the mountains. He attended Erwin High and then went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science degree in molecular biology. He then did graduate work at John Hopkins University and National Institutes of health where he contributed to published work. He was well known in downtown Asheville for performance on the trapeze and even more famous for juggling heavy tools as a busker entertainer. His personality was always cheerful with a love of life and was quick with a smile as big as all outdoors.  A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 26th at the Asheville Jewish Community Center, 236 Charlotte Street, Asheville, NC 28801 from 7 to 9PM (no parking in the JCC lot)
