Richard Alan Hunter

Richard Alan Hunter, 69, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, at home with family by his side. 

Alan was born February 27, 1955, in Waynesville, N.C. He is the son of the late M. Roslyn (Messer) and Bob Hunter of Asheville. 

Alan graduated from Asheville High School in 1973 and Mars Hill College in 1977, where he attended on a full athletic scholarship. He passionately played football all eight years as an offensive lineman under jersey #66 and #76. 

As a lifelong resident of the greater Asheville area, Alan loved the outdoors and all the mountains had to offer. He spent a lifetime, as an avid fisherman, in the rivers, streams, and lakes looking for his next big catch. Alan and his fishing buddies always had entertaining stories to tell of their adventures. 

Alan is survived by his wife, Becky Hunter, his daughter Nicole (Tom) Hart, his son Jonathan (Karen) Hunter, his stepsons Shannon (Krista) Bell, Stacey Bell, and Seth Bell, three step-grandchildren (Priscilla, Maggie, and Walker) and a step-great-grandchild (Isla Rose). 

He was preceded in death by his brothers Keith Wilson Hunter and Jeffery Lane Hunter. 

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m.  Wednesday, March 20th at Family of Faith Fellowship (1157 Glen Bridge Rd SE) in Arden with Pastor James King officiating. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
