Paul was born in Chicago to Vernon M. and Mava Ann Spivey. His mother made certain he got his first library card, and reading and his love of baseball would prove to be lifelong passions for Paul.
After a 35-year career as a personal banker spent with Northern Trust, Paul and his wife Judy retired to Asheville in 2000.
Skyland/South Buncombe Library was appreciative for Paul’s 17 years of leading its book group. His love of literature also gave him many years of enjoyment teaching classes at Asheville’s College for Seniors.
Paul admired Asheville’s famous writer Thomas Wolfe, and he was the longest-serving docent at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial State Historic Site.
Paul also performed with his wife Judy with the Asheville Smooth Dancers, led by the late Bruce Peterson and his wife Carol.
Paul leaves behind his wife Judy, son Mark Spivey, daughter April Spivey, stepdaughter Leslie and her husband Matt Evans, plus a lot of family and friends.
