Dominic Gavin Lloyd Jones

Dominic Gavin Lloyd Jones was born on November 14th, 1973 in Cardiff, Wales to Jacqueline James and Philip Jones. From an early age, Dominic held a strong passion for all media, whether that be music, literature, films, or television. He also enjoyed British Premier League Football, his favorite team being Liverpool, and would never miss a single game wearing one of his favorite crested shirts.

He described his childhood as a quiet one, full of him reading books, watching television, and enjoying his small home in the village of Quaker’s Yard. He spent his teenage years playing drums in a band with his friends and going to concerts or movies at the town theater. Dominic always dreamed of a life of adventure beyond the Welsh countryside. He wanted to see and write about the world in real life as he saw done in the films he enjoyed.

Dominic graduated from Staffordshire University in 1995 with a degree in Radio, TV, and Film. He wanted to be a screenwriter in America, and in pursuit of that dream he went to work at Camp Schodack as a DJ in New York state. This is where he would meet his future wife Karen Conley, the camp’s baker. The two had an instant connection, and despite a long distance relationship as well as the loss of their first daughter Nora Faith who he tragically never got to meet, they were eventually married in March of 1997. They would go on to have two more daughters together, who along with Karen’s children from a previous marriage, became a complete family.

Dominic was a very hardworking and intelligent man who would do anything to provide the best for his loved ones. Despite being diagnosed with a severe genetic heart condition in 1998, and then suffering a stroke in 2004, he never missed more than a single week at his job until his final few months. He was always up to make a few sarcastic quips, enjoy a movie with you, debate politics, or watch Jeopardy! and get nearly every question right. Christmas was always his favorite holiday, as he would find no greater joy than seeing his family happily opening the gifts he worked so hard all year to give them. 

His ill health cost him many of the dreams he may have had for himself growing up, but all of that meant very little to him in the end. Any photo with Dominic smiling always contained his children and wife he loved dearly somewhere in frame. They were his entire world and the life story he’d created for himself that he knew would long outlast him.

After a long battle with HCM and congestive heart failure, Dominic passed away peacefully at home, asleep in his own bed, on March 28th, 2024. Anyone who knew him well would agree he wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Dominic is survived by his wife Karen, his daughters Chloe and Cerys, his other children Kent and Kortney, and his older sister Stephanie Jones-Giles. His human family along with his dogs Jack and Diego, his cats Magic and Molly, and Cheddar the guinea pig will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace.
