Cathy Jean Overman Eaker

Cathy Jean Overman Eaker, 64, of Gulf County, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Haywood Regional Medical Center in Clyde, North Carolina, surrounded by love from her Son and Daughter.

Cathy was born in Waynesville North Carolina in 1959 to Imogene Overman and Walt Overman. Cathy enjoyed staying home as a child and helping take care of her siblings while her parents worked, and always being the “boss lady” while also chasing them up trees. Cathy moved to Gulf County Florida when she turned 18, where she earned her GED before going to work at Sallie Mae.

Cathy gave birth to one child, whom she loved and adored, Damon Burk Eaker III. Damon was named after his papa, also known as “Burt”. Cathy would never stop telling anyone she could, even total strangers, how proud of Damon she was, and how much his Papa would have been proud too. Cathy never thought she’d have any more children - “One and done,” or so they say. That was until Damon met his wife, Shantell (Nikki). Cathy quickly felt a connection with Nikki and decided that was her baby too.

Cathy would enjoy road tripping, preparing family meals and fighting over Damon with “chosen parents” Lou Addie & Burt Eaker. Although Cathy could sit and talk for hours about how much she loved her son and daughter, there was one thing she wanted more than anything. Cathy’s favorite role was that of “Nana.” She treasured her time with her grandkids and loved being their Nana, never failing to send gifts or cards for any holiday. She once took the boys out on the go-cart and raced them down the road to see who could beat the fastest time, even though she knew she probably shouldn’t, just to see them laugh and holler.

Cathy had a soft spot for her furry friends, treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were.

Cathy will always be remembered for her outgoing personality and the way that she made everyone feel like they deserve to be heard. We’ll always imagine hearing her say “I love you” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better Mother, Nana, Sister and Daughter, and will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

Cathy was preceded in death by parents, Imogene and Walt Overman; brother, Tommy Overman; and chosen parents, Burt and Lou Addie Eaker.

Her memory will forever be remembered and treasured by her, sister, Patricia Overman of Asheville NC; kids, Damon and Nikki Eaker of Vernon FL; step-daughter, Angela ‘Niki’ Moore (Tom) of Blountstown FL; Aunt, Joyce of Marianna; nieces, Crystal and Brianna of Port St. Joe; nephew, Shane (Candace) of SC Simon of Texas; grandkids, Braiden, BradLee, Brycelynn and Bristoll of Vernon Fl; and her furry companion, Lucy.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
