Welcome to the memorial page for

Sharon Rebecca Bailey

May 24, 2017

Sharon Rebecca Bailey, 70, of Asheville, NC, passed away on May 24, 2017 with family by her side.

Sharon was born in Atlanta, Ga. to Hazel Atkinson and Elijah R. Bailey, both deceased. She was happily married to Brett Lee Salter for 38 years until he passed away in March of 2016.

After graduating from East Carolina State, Sharon worked in the computer industry in both California and Atlanta, Ga.  She then joined Brett to start their own company, Periscope, producing award-winning hardware and software for the IBM personal computer.

After a 25-year business career, she enrolled in graduate school at Georgia State Univ. and earned her Master of Fine Arts degree with a specialty in jewelry design. In 2001, Sharon and Brett retired and moved to Asheville, where she began a second career as a  jewelry artist.  She was a proud  member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and sold her work through regional galleries.

Sharon cherished her husband, two beautiful Maine Coon cats, devoted friends and her community. She also enjoyed tap dancing, yoga, music, reading and antiquing.

Sharon passed from this world, just as she lived it, with such grace.  She spent her final days at the Solace Center in Asheville under the tender care of the many angels disguised as health care providers.

Surviving Sharon are her mother in law, Drew Schulz; sister in law Margie Chusmir and husband, Steve; brother in law, Tom Salter; sister in law, Mary Salter; nephew, Dylan Eads and wife Alexandria who loved her and will miss her dearly.

A celebration of life will be held for Sharon Bailey on Saturday, Aug. 5th at 11 am at the Center for Creative Design at 67 Broadway in downtown Asheville.
Sharon requested that any donations be made to the Southern Highland Craft Guild, Manna Foodbank or Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.
