Welcome to the memorial page for

Scott Martene Crowner

May 2, 2017

Scott Martene Crowner, 54 of Sylva, NC, passed away Tuesday May 2, 2017 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Scott is preceded by his father, Bruce Martene Crowner, and mother, Barbara Jean Hawley. Surviving Scott are his daughters, Shawnna Smathers (Thomas) of Sylva, NC, Megan Miller (Jarrod) of Ft. Sill, OK; sons, Justin Crowner of Sylva, NC, and Scotty Crowner of Sylva, NC; sisters, Debra Updegraph of Whittier, NC, Darlene Coleman (Richard) of Albion, NY; brother, Steve Drake (Shelly) of Victor, NY; grandchildren, Shaylee Smathers of Sylva, NC, Austin Miller, Alayna Miller, and Addison Miller of Ft. Sill, OK, and many nieces and nephews. Scott was a loving father who, despite his disability of being blind, raised his four children. His girls may have had lopsided pigtails, and his boys may have worn mismatched shoes at times as toddlers but he never let his disability hinder his efforts. Scott was also a loving grandfather whose favorite thing to do with his grandkids was to watch Christmas cartoons, year-round. His children loved him unconditionally. Scott was loved far and wide by many, and his story reached and touched the hearts of those he loved, as well as those he had never met, regardless of distance or time. His friends were considered by him to be family, and were equally as important to him. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting with his lifelong friends and reminiscing about the good old days. Other than being a father, Scott felt his most important role was sharing his love for God and a message of faith and hope It was well known that Scott made sure to offer up prayers daily for not only family and friends but also for those in need that he had never met. We miss our dad very much, but his presence is always with us, even though he is now basking in the glory of Heaven with his mom, our grandma. We take comfort in the knowledge that he can now see her face as his sight is restored. A private memorial will be held at home in North Carolina, with another memorial held in his home town in New York at a later date. In lieu of flowers, dad would be pleased to know that donations were made to his church back home, Calvary Tabernacle Assembly in Medina, NY (attention: Calvary Cupboard).
