Sam King, Jr. Obituary

Sam Morgan King, Jr, 62, died on January 24, 2018.  He was the son of the late Sam Morgan King and Janet Phillips King.  He was born in Greenville, SC and graduated from Greenville High School where he played football and baseball.  Morgan graduated from Wofford College in 1977 with a B.A. in English and from Converse College with a Masters in Education.  He taught English and coached football at McCracken Junior High School for 20 years.  After McCracken, Morgan was the supervisor for Spartanburg County Adult Education for 11 years. He is survived by his wife, Maria, daughter, Catherine Boldt (Carl), mother-in law, Jeanette Anderson, brother, Clark King (Pam), nephew, Will Twombley-King (Rick) and the usual assortment of aunts and cousins. We will miss his quick wit, intelligence, and his love of sports. A favorite quote of his by Groucho Marx was “Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.” In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Make-A-Wish Foundation. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 11th from 4pm to 6pm at the Woodfin Ridge Golf Clubhouse. The address is 215 S. Woodfin Ridge Drive, Inman, SC 29349.
