Phil Monroe Styron, 63, of Asheville passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the St. Joseph Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville after a brief illness. Born October 15, 1954 in Ocracoke, NC, he was a son of the late Norman and Annie Williams Styron. He was a graduate of Ocracoke School class of 1972 and was an alumnus of York Technical Institute where he received an A.S. degree in 1992. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, and for most of his adult life worked as a commercial fisherman. Of his many passions fishing was his favorite, but he also enjoyed cooking and gardening. Phil was deeply devoted to his Christian faith and enjoyed reading his Bible as often as he could. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Norman Styron Jr. Surviving are his spouse of 24 years, Cathy E. Styron; children: Olivia Styron and her significant other, Montana Raine, of Black Mountain, Chelcea Jackson and her spouse, Justin, of Black Mountain, and Ross Farrar of Asheville; and sister, Connie Sue Whitehurst of Apalachicola, FL. A memorial service will be held at The Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Asheville on April 28th at 3pm with the family receiving friends an hour prior.
