Mary Ann was born in Chicago Illinois to John “Jack” and Agnes Janson. In May 1952, she married Charles “Chuck” Lovejoy. They started their family in Chicago and in the early 60’s they moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where they continued building onto their young family. In 1971 they headed “North to Alaska” where Mary Ann and Chuck were small business owners and residents for over twenty years.
While in Alaska Mary Ann became a “master” bridge player with a local bridge club. She also discovered a passion for knitting and quilting.
Retirement brought them to Mars Hill, NC where they immediately founded new
friends and relationships. She continued to nurture her love of quilting and was an active member in the local quilt guild. She made some awesome friends and loved “quilting” with the Beech Glen girls, the road trips and shop hops and everything else to do with quilting.
She was an awesome mother and friend. Her children (Chuck and Carol Lovejoy, North Pole, Alaska, Doris and Doug Dortch, Anchorage, Alaska, Mary and Bob Marx , Hagerstown, Maryland and Matthew Lovejoy of Fairfax, Virginia) adored her and know that she will be forever in their hearts.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her son Martin “Marty” Lovejoy of Sutton, Alaska.
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren (12) and great grandchildren (4), sister Sue Robinson and brothers Joe and John Janson and many nieces and nephews.
She never had any problem making friends wherever she went and was always willing to share her love for quilting with others.
There will be a gathering of friends at the Beech Glen Community Center on Thursday, June 8 at 12:30 p.m. Please come share a story, or an item that she may have made you!
