Gary George Sager

Gary George Sager, 66, of Weaverville, NC, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Barbara Cella Sager; parents Frederick L. Sager and Marilyn V. Sager; and brothers, Frederick L. Sager, Jr. and Keith R. Sager. Gary was born in Passaic, NJ, and formerly of Kinnelon, NJ. He was the former owner of The Kitchen Corner in Butler, NJ, a maintenance technician for Emerald Ridge Rehabilitation & Care Center, and a yoga instructor at Asheville Community Yoga. After caring for his wife, who had breast cancer, Gary opened his heart to the Asheville community. He was a former member of the Reems Creek Fire Department and volunteered for multiple organizations throughout Asheville. A lifelong musician, Gary played guitar weekly for the residents of Emerald Ridge. He was an animal lover that had many dogs, cats, and horses. He loved to hike and forage for mushrooms, and enjoyed cooking, sailing, and skiing. Gary will be sorely missed by all those he touched. He is survived by his sons, Craig M. Sager of Seattle, WA, and Drew M. Sager, and wife, Megan of Greenwood, IN; grandsons, Cale Sager and Rowan Sager of Greenwood, IN; granddaughters, Gemma Sager and Tessa Sager of Greenwood, IN; brother, Scott M. Sager, and wife, Susan of Franklin, NJ; brother-in-law, Richard Cella of Mahwah, NJ; sister-in-law, Gail Zambrano of Leonia, NJ; nephew, Christopher Zambrano of Maywood, NJ; and 4 other nieces and nephews. Bergen Record: A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 15 at 5:30pm at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood in Ridgewood, NJ; Asheville C-T: A celebration of life will be held Saturday July 22 at 5:30pm at Asheville Community Yoga in Asheville, NC.
