Gail Opp, nee Abigail Wingate Story, age 94 of Givens Estates in Asheville, NC, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at her home. Born on May 5, 1923 in Flushing, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frances Wood and Harry Powers Story and sister of the late Charlotte Story Clough. She was preceded in death by her son, Gordon Wingate Bowie, and husbands, Walter Bowie, Arthur Opp, and her loving companion, John S. Kemp, with whom she shared the last thirty years. Gail is survived by daughter-in-law, Mary Stimson Bowie, grandson, Gavin Wingate Bowie (Sarah Mars), and two great-grandsons. She also leaves behind many friends and students who will remember her gracious spirit. Gail was an artist, a Sumi-e master, who had a deep respect and love for Japanese culture. She was a life-long student and was known for her willingness to share her expertise and knowledge with others. She published three books and continued to create and show her art until her final days. A memorial service to mark the passing of this gentle soul will be held in Asbury Commons in the 2nd floor Living Room during the Celebration of Life Art Reception on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM.
