Barbara Boylan Obituary

Asheville, NC-Barbara Pointer Brown Boylan “BB” to those that loved her, died at age 69 on March 19th due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. Barbara was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 3rd, 1948 to Dorothy Duffy Brown and George McGehee Brown who preceded her in death. She attended Holy Name of Jesus School in New Orleans, and attended college at Louisiana State University. Barbara began her career in banking working for Dixie Homestead in New Orleans and First Union in Asheville, until she began working in the long term care field. Ironically she opened the first Alzheimer’s Unit in Western North Carolina at the Black Mountain Center in 1988 and worked for several facilities until 2005. She became a fixture in Biltmore Village working at Fireside Antiques and then alongside her favorite ladies at Gardener’s Cottage. People loved Barbara and would come in the store just to talk to her, bring her plants, and listen to her stories. She married the love of her life Robert Ambrose Boylan Jr. on September 7th, 1974. She brought her son Beau Breckenridge into this marriage and had a daughter, Katharine Boylan Fuchs in 1980. They then decided to make the move to the mountains of North Carolina. Barbara loved her flowers, her plants, her puppy dogs Momus, Roux, Dewars and Gumbo. She loved her friends and would do absolutely anything for anybody. She was always smiling and had the biggest heart. As the disease progressed it became increasingly difficult for BB to communicate but she always managed to say “I love you”. Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Robert Ambrose Boylan Jr, son Beau Breckenridge and wife Jackie and their children Charlotte Walker Breckenridge and Wilder Brown Breckenridge, her daughter, Katharine Boylan Fuchs, husband Maximilian and their children, Dakota Daniel Fuchs, Ford Boylan Fuchs and Amelie Ambrose Fuchs. She is also survived by her sister Jennie Brown Bryant and husband Jim, brother Francis Barlow Brown and wife Robin, and brother George McGehee Brown Jr and wife Kelly and seven nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at The Cathedral of All Souls at 11:00 in the morning on Saturday March 24th. An Interment will follow in the Garth followed by a reception in the Parrish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Western North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 31 College Place Suite D103, Asheville NC 28801, and The Cathedral of All Souls. The family would like to thank the staff at MemoryCare, CarePartners Adult Day Care, the girls at Jazzercise for their amazing friendship and the most incredible staff at Aston Park Health Care Center along with Four Seasons Hospice and Elizabeth House.
